Airline travel has become a staple of life for many people nowadays. It is relied on for business, pleasure, and everything in between. Knowing the importance of airline travel, we have compiled list of the airlines around the world that you need to avoid.

Air Koryo (North Korea)

It’s no surprise that a North Korean based airline is on this list. It is quite a feat that they are able to be recognized as one of the worst internationally, when they only regularly fly 4 routes. They have been reviewed as being unprofessional, having poor quality food, and providing propaganda riddled inflight entertainment (what a shocker!). They are renowned for being the only 1 star rated airline in the world according to Skytrax.

Spirit Airlines (United States)

Domestically, Spirit Airlines is one of the worst, according to several sources. Recent statistics have shown them to be on time a meager 69 percent of the time while their customer service suffers from 11.73 complaints per 1000 passengers. Both of those stats are at the top of lists they do not want to be at the top of. According to Spirit, in an effort to limit cost and provide less tarmac time, they run on a tight schedule with little cushion. This gives them little margin for error. Keep your distance from this airline, unless you are looking to extend your time away from home.

Iberia Airlines (Spain)

This Spanish based airline is notorious for having poor customer service. Several reviews harp on the fact that the attendants cannot be bothered for anything. One patron requested a bottle of water and it took around 30 minutes, far less than ideal. The other major complaint is the overcrowding of flights even during the day. Spain is a major tourist destination, but we recommend avoiding Iberia to get there.

EasyJet (United Kingdom)

It is a bit ironic that the name is Easy Jet when problems are continually revealed. You would think the UK’s largest airline would be the first choice of airline travel for patrons, but it is quite the opposite. EasyJet has been condemned for their handling of claims against the airline for delayed flights. Delays have also plagued this airline.

Iran Air (Iran)

Qatar Airlines and Emirates have received kudos for their successes in the industry. However, their regional rival, Iran Air, has not had the same success. In 2010, Iran Air was almost shut down due to a lack of proper safety on their planes. Iran Air is second in the world with 5 accidents and 708 deaths in around 970,000 completed flights. This is the second most in the world. A story indicative of their airline is when they reportedly stopped a place in the middle of the runway during takeoff to perform maintenance. However, now that many sanctions have been lifted against Iran, the country is making an effort to purchase new planes, so perhaps they will turn it around.

Tajik Air (Tajikistan)

The problems with this airline center around the planes themselves. One customer felt uncomfortable due to the fact that the seats were barely bolted down. The planes are said to be outdated and smelly. This is not the type of experience I would want to suffer through for several hours.

Turkmenistan Airlines (Turkmenistan)

Rude, incompetent, useless. These are all words that have been used to describe the customer service of Turkmenistan Airlines. Review upon review reveals the inadequacy of the flight crew, from their lack of attentiveness to their standoffish nature, not to mention the lack of cleanliness and inedibility of the food.
